About Us

Not the shop but a trade fair in the RDS, we still stock some of the
brands we were selling back in the 80’s!

ID Models is a family run business with a simple ethos - provide the best service, best prices and the widest range of products.

We have been in business for over 25 years, in 1987 John Brady owned the Motor Shop in Stillorgan Shopping centre (one of the original shops from 1966). He decided to open a small model shop as part of the Motor Shop, this was called ‘The Model Motor Shop’ (Original!) The shop was small but very good, (John had gone to the leading UK Hobby Shops to gather ideas on what ranges to stock). When it opened we stocked brands such as Corgi, Tamiya, Revell, Bburago and we were one of the only shops in Ireland stocking Pocher kits which retailed at 400 Punts, a huge amount of money in the 80’s. We operated a very successful business there until 1997 when John sold the Motor Shop to Motorstore, it was the end of an era but we had all developed a love for the model/hobby business.

Our shop in Dun Laoghaire, we operated here from 2004 to late 2007.

For the next few years the company went in a different direction but we still had our finger in the hobby business. In the year 2000 we decided that we wanted to open a shop again so we purchased a run down building in Patrick Street Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin and set about renovating it, over the next few years the project came together and in 2004 the shop was opened. A lot of thought and design went into the layout and product display in the shop, we wanted to make sure everything was right for our customers. Over the next few years we constantly increased our stock range and became one of the leading Model shops in the country. By the start of 2007 we realised that the business had out grown the building, we had to make the decision to either move to a bigger retail unit or take the business online. We decided that going web based would give us the best opportunity to grow the business while providing a great service and competitive prices. In late 2007 we moved to our current location, a Warehouse in Kilcoole Co Wicklow and took the business online. After a few teething problems the website began to mover forward, we were the first and still the only diecast/hobby business to offer free shipping in Ireland on all orders, a service we still provide today.

* We continually try to look at ways to provide our customers with the best service we can which lead us to the next step in our business, the launch of our new website (August 2012). A lot of time and effort was put into the design of the website with the hope to improve the customers experience and allow us to expand the business even further. With new ranges being added to our website monthly and our commitment to low prices we hope to continue to grow the business into the future.

Our current building in Kilcoole co Wicklow, not as pretty as Dun Laoghaire but a lot bigger!
